DR. DRE AND LOVINE FACING $107 MILLION SUIT OVER BEATS

On June 7, 2018, Businessman Steven Lamar told a California jury his story of how he created Beats by Dre, the popular headphones that made Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine extraordinarily rich.

Lamar claims that Beats was his idea and that Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine were only meant to be “celebrity endorsements.” He further added that his idea derived from experience working with Quincy Jones on a line of home theatre speakers while he was president of SLS audio, where he met Interscope Records President, Jimmy Iovine and then Dr. Dre. In 2005, he allegedly brought the idea to Iovine, and soon thereafter had Apple Inc. designer Robert Brunner make a headphone and brand identity, that Iovine, and Dr. Dre thereafter allegedly stole.

Lamar claims the royalties owed to him per the agreement now total no less than $107 million.

The case is Jibe Audio LLC et al. v. Jimmy Iovine et al., case number BC533089, in the Superior Court of the State of California, County of Los Angeles.
