FORMER FLEETWOOD MAC MEMBERS SUES BAND AFTER BEING REPLACED

On October 12, 2018, Former Fleetwood Mac member Lindsey Buckingham (“Buckingham”) filed a lawsuit in California state court against his former band members claiming he was kicked out and replaced without warning after 43 years.

Buckingham, the guitarist and vocalist for the group, claims his bandmates breached their verbal agreement and ousted him after he asked them to postpone Fleetwood Mac’s 60-show tour for three months so that he could promote his solo album. According to the complaint, there has never been a written agreement between the members during the 43 years of them playing together.

“After 43 years of camaraderie and friendship, not a single member of the band called Buckingham to break the news to him…In fact, not a single member of Fleetwood Mac has returned any of Buckingham’s phone calls to provide him with an explanation for his purported expulsion from Fleetwood Mac,” the complaint states.

Buckingham states the band is cutting him out of up to $14 million in potential revenues from the upcoming tour, and demands an accounting of financial records, as well as compensatory damages, plus attorneys’ fees and costs, and interest. The suit asserts claims for breach of fiduciary duty, breach of oral contract and intentional interference with prospective economic advantage.

Buckingham is represented by Barry E. Mallen of Loeb & Loeb LLP.
